Maisie Williams is keeping herself occupied. The actress has been cast in yet another role, only a day after it was reported that she would be appearing alongside Freddie Highmore from The Good Doctor in a factual true-crime drama named Sinner V. Saints. This time, she’ll be a part of Apple TV+’s drama series The New Look. She’ll star with Ben Mendelsohn and Juliette Binoche in the wartime fashion project, which was previously announced.
During WWII’s Nazi Occupation of Paris, the series depicts the changing tides in the fashion world as Coco Chanel (Binoche) begins her fall from grace and is supplanted by Christian Dior (Mendelsohn). While Dior inspired many by designing fresh styles and striving to keep some light in the world, it was his younger sister, Catherine, who had the war hero narrative. Williams will play Catherine, a woman who fought alongside the French Resistance before being apprehended by the Nazi Gestapo and sent to a prison camp.
Despite the fact that Catherine was freed in 1945, the traumatic experiences she had at the hands of her captors would haunt her for the rest of her life. Catherine was awarded the Medal of Honor for Courage in the Cause of Freedom for her bravery. While we don’t know how much of Catherine’s narrative will be told in The New Look, we can assume that it will be extensive, as Dior always looked up to his younger sister, even named his first perfume, Miss Dior, after her.
The actress, who has been nominated for two Emmy Awards, will soon be seen in the FX limited series Pistol. She’ll play Jordan, a legendary 1970s model and fashionista who was associated with The Sex Pistols, the subject of the series. Williams’ name is, of course, linked to the world of Game of Thrones, where she rose to prominence as the brave and adventurous Arya Stark.
We believe Williams will feel perfectly at home in the role of the tough-as-nails French Resistance warrior. She’ll not only highlight her action background, but she’ll also demonstrate her dramatic acting ability. There is currently no release date for The New Look, but stay tuned to Collider for updates as they become available.
