Downton Abbey: A New Era is already in theatres in the United Kingdom, but American consumers will have to wait until the May 20th batch of 2022 movie releases to see it. That hasn’t stopped spoilers from leaking out, with domestic fans avoiding key story aspects like the plague, because to some horrifying rumours predicting the death of a “iconic character.” Some of the women in the group weren’t so sure old-timey bathing suits would make for an attractive image, according to reports from the set of this latest film.
When it came to filming A New Era, Tuppence Middleton, who joined the Downton Abbey family in the previous 2019 feature as Lucy Bagshaw, expressed this particular concern. Middleton shared the following tale with The Mirror about a particular problem that transformed into a comfort while filming this year’s anticipated sequel:
In the latest teaser for Downton Abbey: A New Era, this swimsuit is featured for a brief time. Tuppence Middleton and her on-screen husband, Allen Leech’s Thomas Branson, are a good example of this. The pair have a heart-to-heart on the sand about their family’s future and how it relates to the Dowager Countess’ mystery new inheritance.
Naturally, we’re not giving any spoilers until a larger group of people has watched the film, but this Downton Abbey moment highlights costume designer Anna Robbins’ incredible work. Downton Abbey 2 is still full of mysteries, but one thing is certain: those swimming costumes look quite comfortable. If this new cinematic expansion is popular enough, perhaps an entire line will be released for the general public to purchase. It’s a possibility that, when you consider it, isn’t all that bad.
