HBO has released a new trailer for its intriguing sci-fi series Westworld, as well as a release date. While the series is no stranger to gory images, the new teaser promises that Season 4 will be even more terrifying. So prepare your stomach for some of the most horrific sequences in the series.
The clip is a succession of fragmented photos from the upcoming season set to Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day.” We can only evaluate each frame and try to guess what they mean without dialogue. We see images of a robot vomiting insects from its cracked face, a fly entering a man’s eyes, and blood-splattered walls at first, but the trailer quickly descends into madness, and we begin to watch in horror as we see images of a robot vomiting insects from its cracked face, a fly entering a man’s eyes, and walls painted in blood. Whatever Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy’s writers and co-creators have in store for fans, we can be sure that Season 4 of Westworld will do everything it can to push us out of our comfort zones.
The new trailer also features Jeffrey Wright, Ed Harris, Thandiwe Newton, Luke Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Angela Sarafyan, and Aaron Paul, who are all returning for Season 4 of Westworld. Dolores, played by Evan Rachel Wood, is also seen in the new trailer. Fans may be surprised, since Dolores passed the robot revolution torch to Maeve (Newton) and Caleb (Paul) in Season 3 before having her AI wiped. But then again, this is Westworld, a show that constantly shifts our perceptions of what is real and what isn’t, to the point where we never know if someone is genuinely dead.
The first season of Westworld, which premiered in 2016, was critically acclaimed and quickly became the most-watched HBO show at the time. Unfortunately, each successive season struggled to hold people’ attention as it moved away from the character-driven narrative and into a secret-filled drama. To make matters worse, Westworld’s final season ended in May 2020, leaving many fans unaware of story aspects that could provide context for the show’s inevitable twists and turns. You can also refresh your memory by using our comprehensive chronological timeline of events. However, if Season 4 continues to rely on hollow surprises as a crutch, the robot revolution may be coming to an end.
Kilter Films and Bad Robot Productions are producing Westworld in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television. Nolan, Joy, Alison Schapker, Denise Thé, J.J. Abrams, Athena Wickham, Richard J. Lewis, and Ben Stephenson are among the executive producers.
On June 26, HBO will premiere Season 4 of Westworld. Check out the new trailer after the jump.
