The hit comedy series Ghosts has just landed an exclusive SVOD (subscription-based video-on-demand) arrangement with Paramount+ and Lionsgate. This great news comes after the sitcom was renewed by CBS for a second season earlier this year. Ghosts is the highest-rated new comedy of the year, according to both critics and audiences.
The new deal will expand Paramount+’s existing in-season rights to the series, making it the exclusive SVOD provider for new and existing episodes of Ghosts beginning this fall.
“With original plots, a terrific cast, and a brilliant creative team, Ghosts is that rare television series that taps into the popular zeitgeist to become a cultural sensation,” said Jim Packer, president of Lionsgate Worldwide Television Distribution Group.
According to David Stapf, president of CBS Studios, the news of Paramount+’s deal for SVOD rights will certainly add to the anticipation surrounding Ghosts. Stapf stated,
Ghosts is based on a British television series of the same name and was produced by Lionsgate in collaboration with BBC Studios in Los Angeles. Samantha (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) are a couple who move into their dream home only to discover that it is stuffed to the gills with an eclectic group of spirits that only Samantha can see and hear.
Brandon Scott Jones, Richie Moriarty, Asher Grodman, Rebecca Wisocky, Sheila Carrasco, Danielle Pinnock, Roman Zaragoza, and Devan Chandler Long co-star alongside McIver and Ambudkar. The series’ showrunners are Joe Port and Joe Wiseman.
“If the flashback is from when they were alive, simply being able to move, hold, and wear different things is a lot of fun for them. The audience, on the other hand, finds it amusing to see them in a new surroundings or in the same house but from a different age “Wiseman continued. “Alberta singing in a jazz club in the 1920s is something we’d love to see. That’s something we’re trying to figure out, and I’ve seen folks clamouring for it online, which I understand. She’s such a delightful character, and that location would be fantastic. That sort of thing.”
